The kids were so excited when a new book arrived in the mail today. It was the Reader's Digest Children's Songbook with a companion CD. I popped in the CD and went to fold some clothes. A few minutes later, I hear this:
"MOM!! This CD is inappropriate!"
"Asker, what's wrong? This song is fine. It's called Camptown Races. I used to listen to this song when I was little."
"Mom, they said a bad word."
"I don't think so, buddy, maybe you just misunderstood."
"No, mom, seriously. They said..." whispers, "butthole!"
He wasn't kidding.

Oh my...he was right....too funny! What are you going to do?????
Loved your comment on my blog - my husband laughed out loud!!! When the kids act up he claims itis because practice makes perfect and we never gotto practice!!!!
have a great day!
Don't ask me if it's inappropriate, I still laugh at the planet Uranus.
I am a grandfather that stumbled onto you blog and love to read it. It is so funny, but I believe he sang "mud hole". I listened several times and at first I agreed with you, but after several times I believe "mud hole" is what is sung.
Wow, Sam, you're good. I had to Google it to find out the real lyrics. I couldn't tell a mudhole from a...well, anyway, the 6year old is not convinced.
Thanks
OMG!!! I definitely hear butt hole, but I'm going to listen again to see if I hear mud hole this time.
I don't think they said butthole back when "Camptown Races" was written - isn't that more of a modern sorta bad word? [even though I knew it was "mudhole", it sounded like "butthole" to me too.] Hilarious that your kids came to whisper it to you.
OMG that is hilarious!
Very perceptive kiddo! ;)
hahaha. It does say that!
Oh no!!! Funny!
oh my...i need to get that!! that is my sons favorite...absolute favorite..word!!!
Who the! What the!
I thought we were considering DOODA a bad word, not BUTTHOLE.
Children's music. Is nothing sacred anymore?
Why? Why can't I hear it??????
Too funny. I hope they do actually say butthole instead of mud hole. It is way funnier!
Oh my! It totally sounds like that!!!
I'm fascinated with how people (including myself) often mis-hear song lyrics. There's even a website devoted to it:

Too funny.
By the way, this is the first time I've visited your blog, and I really enjoyed it!
From the mouths of babes! They are so funny. And, I love the need for the whisper!
I taught my daughter that butt, stupid and lots of other words that are used commonly were "bad" words. When she started Kindergarten, I think I spent the better part of that year explaining that they're not "bad" they're just not nice. Ugh. It is hard when your kid is the polite one....
OMG. It does not say "mudhole". Nope. My mind is totally in the gutter, yes, but I swear it says "stick it in the big butthole". My eyes are wide open in shock.
